My Personal Journey of Two Books

In today’s video, I’ll recommend two books for you. I’m always asked for book recommendations, so I’ll be doing a series of videos where I recommend books for you.

The first book that I want to share with you changed my life. It’s Eckhart Tolle’s “A New Earth.” You have probably heard of Eckhart Tolle. He is a spiritual Master of our time.

So many people have said his books have changed their lives. I am one of these people. I was in a place where I was seeking deeper answers to life. I was in a lot of pain and confusion.

I was reading a lot of texts on spirituality but nothing was quenching my deep thirst for the knowledge I needed. That is, until I came across the very powerful “A New Earth.”

First of all, it gave me the answers to this life and spirituality that I was seeking. Secondly, it inspired me to start meditating. The book introduced me to the ego part of my mind – which is so destructive if we are not aware of it. It also introduced me to pain-body.

Pain-body is emotional buildup from our life. If we do not handle our pain properly, it will become like an entity always waiting to remind us of itself. The ego and pain-body love to remind us of our negative situations and root us in our past.

Conscious awareness and meditation are the keys to releasing our past and pain-body.

Because of this book, I began meditating about ten minutes per day and tapped into the beautiful internal world that resides within each of us.

The ten minute meditations lead me to the next step along my spiritual journey: A ten day silent meditation retreat. We meditated about eleven hours per day each of these ten days.

Some of you may know what retreat I’m talking about. It’s called Vipassana. And those ten days were not a band-aide effect on my healing/journey. They were so deep and intense that they changed my life forever – for the better 

I realized all of the answers are within us. Peace is within us waiting to be discovered.

The retreat deepened my connection with Life. And Vipassana is the basis of the second book recommendation I have for you: “From My Heart to Yours: Based on a True Story.”

This is actually my own book; I am the author. It’s fiction, based on a true story, inspired by my life. I wrote the book fiction to protect the privacy of those whose lives had crossed paths with mine.

The reason why I’m recommending this book is because I write about my first ten day Vipassana meditation experience. The chapter that Vipassana is chronicled (the last chapter) is different than the rest of the book, in that it is nonfiction. And I actually got that chapter okayed by a Vipassana Assistant Teacher before the book went into publication.

The character goes through love, loss, life and death. Through her ten day retreat, her life questions and hardships are shown their meaning.

She realizes the art of life is how we deal with everything. And the meditation ingrains this concept on a deep experiential level. She finds peace and clarity. Everything comes together for her in that retreat.

So, if you are seeking deeper answers to life, or if you feel a ten day silent meditation retreat is in your calling, then I recommend you picking up “From My Heart to Yours: Based on a True Story” to learn more about this experience.

Vipassana is donation only and they have centers all over the world. I not only attended that one ten day retreat but many afterwards too. It set my feet firmly on the path of spirituality.. The path of the heart.

When we make a connection with this life, it actually becomes so simple. It becomes so beautiful. We realize it is the mind that complicates everything.
